Jaime Galvez Toledo of North Lauderdale, Florida, was arrested last week for allegedly forcing a teenage girl from Coral Springs to have sex with him. Toledo, 32, faces six counts of sexual battery and is being held in lieu of a $150,000 bond. It is unclear if he has acquired the services of an attorney.
According to the arrest report, the alleged incidents took place between April and July this year in Toledo’s car and his North Lauderdale home. Toledo was the victim’s driving coach and was also reportedly assisting the girl’s family in moving to South Florida.
The victim told police that Toledo allegedly threatened to stop helping her family if she refused to have sex with him. He also purportedly threatened the safety of her siblingeee. Police claim to have conducted a “controlled call” between Toledo and the girl’s mother on September 29. During that call, Toledo reportedly told the victim’s mother that he had inappropriately touched her daughter and engaged in oral sex with her in his home.
When questioned after his arrest, Toledo allegedly told investigators that he had engaged in sexual activity with the girl in his car and home “at least eight times,” but he denied threatening or forcing the girl to participate in any of those acts.
The police report states that Toledo said he knew it was against the law for him to engage in sexual activity with the girl because of her age, but he did it anyway. Court records show Toledo has pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
A similar case was reported in South Florida earlier last month involving a soccer coach. Juan “Johnny” Ramos, director of player development and coaching at the Plantation Eagles Soccer Club, was arrested on August 25 for allegedly having sex with an American Heritage School student when she was 13 years old.
Ramos, 43, faces four counts of sexual battery against a minor and was ordered held without bond in Broward County jail. News sources did not name a lawyer for Ramos.
According to the police report, the alleged sexual abuse took place between 2003 and 2008. Ramos was the soccer coach at American Heritage and first met the victim when she was 10 years old. He was hired by the victim’s parents to give her private lessons when she joined the soccer club.
The victim, now 26 years old, told police that Ramos would playfully tickle and wrestle her during the lessons, and that progressed to oral sex when she was 13. Ramos reportedly didn’t have sexual intercourse with her until she was 14, and from then on, most of their weekly lessons involved sexual activity. Ramos has been suspended from his position as director at Plantation Eagles Soccer Club and coach for the Olympic Development Program at Florida Youth Soccer pending the outcome of his case.
