Freddy Alberto Elias of Sunrise, Florida was arrested on January 8 for allegedly choking his girlfriend, branding her with fork, and attempting to “waterboard” her in the shower with a towel and water. Elias, 27, faces charges for attempted murder, false imprisonment, domestic battery, and aggravated battery. He is being held at Broward Main Jail without bond. New sources did not name an attorney for Elias.
According to the affidavit, Elias knocked at the back door of his girlfriend’s home at 3 a.m. on January 3. His girlfriend, whose name has not been released because she’s an alleged victim of domestic abuse, was reportedly with a male friend at the time. The friend left through the front door before Elias entered the home.
Elias suspected someone had been in the house and allegedly got into a heated argument with his girlfriend over the matter. The argument escalated and Elia purportedly threw the woman’s phone against the wall, grabbed her by the neck and pushed her to the ground. He then allegedly forced a sock down her throat causing her to choke until she lost consciousness.
Elias dragged her into the bathroom and held a towel tightly over her face to prevent her from breathing. He reportedly poured water over her face to simulate the action of waterboarding. The affidavit says he repeated the action four times.
The woman managed to escape over an hour later. She ran outside and screamed until a neighbor gave her a phone to call the police. She reported the incident and told police that Elias threatened to kill her. News sources say prosecutors and police called Elias’ alleged attempt to waterboard his girlfriend “torturous acts of violence that the United Nations has outlawed.”
