Miami-Dade Public Schools employee Victor Brantley was arrested on April 9 for allegedly engaging in sexual relations with a 15-year-old boy.
Brantley, 45, is listed as an IT specialist at South Dade Senior High School. He faces charges that include lewd and lascivious battery, using a computer service arrange travel to meet a minor, and transmitting child pornography.
He was booked into Miami-Dade jail and was ordered held on $35,000 bond. He has since been released. The press did not name an attorney for him.
According to the arrest report, Brantley started talking to the teen on the online dating app “Grindr” earlier this month. Brantley allegedly gave the teen his username on the Kik messenger app and the two began talking about sexual activity and exchanged nude pictures.
Last weekend, Brantley picked up the teen from his home and took him to his house, where they engaged in sex acts, police said.
Brantley has worked with the school district for 25 years with no prior offenses. The Miami-Dade County Public Schools has reportedly started the process of terminating his employment.
“The allegations against this individual are inexcusable and shameful,” a Miami-Dade County Public Schools spokesperson said in a statement. “Employees are routinely familiarized with School Board policy and kept apprised of any updates—especially where employee-student interactions are concerned. In line with our zero-tolerance guiding principles against inappropriate behavior with students, the district has initiated employment termination proceedings. This employee will also be prevented from seeking future employment with Miami-Dade County Public Schools.”
Another incident of sexual misconduct by a Miami-Dade Public Schools employee was reported late last month. Fifth-grade teacher Alejandro Perez was arrested on March 22 for allegedly inappropriately touching his female students.
Perez, 60, is charged with lewd and lascivious conduct on a minor under 12 and lewd and lascivious molestation on a minor over 16. He is being held without bond at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. It is unclear if he has acquired the services of an attorney.
According to the arrest report, the alleged misconduct occurred at Charles R. Hadley Elementary School in Miami-Dade. Several students accused Perez of touching them sexually, police said. The students purportedly provided police with three different cellphone videos that show Perez engaging in the behavior.
Perez has worked with the school district for 34 years and has no prior incidents. The school district released a statement condemning his alleged behavior and announced that it is in the process of terminating his employment.
Lewd or lascivious battery, or statutory rape, criminalizes consensual sexual relations between an adult and a minor between the age of 12 and 16. It is a second degree felony that is punishable by up to 15 years in prison, a $10,000 fine, and 15 years of sex offender probation.
