Timothy Miller of West Palm Beach, Florida was arrested on after he allegedly attempted to kidnap a 12-year-old school boy.
Miller, 26, faces charges that include kidnapping, child neglect, DUI, and resisting arrest. He is being held without bond at Palm Beach County Jail. It is unclear if he has acquired the services of an attorney.
According to Palm Beach police, the alleged attempted kidnapping occurred at approximately 4 p.m. August 21 along Hypoluxo Road in Boynton Beach. The victim, who was wearing a school uniform and carrying a backpack, had just gotten off a school bus and was walking along the sidewalk when Miller drove up in a pickup truck.
Miller reportedly offered the boy a ride, telling him that he gives children rides all the time and he shouldn’t worry because “he won’t do anything weird.” The boy later told investigators that he got into the vehicle because Miller had a friendly smile and seemed nice.
However, after the boy got in, Miller reportedly started to act strange. He asked the boy if he had any drugs and started to drive erratically and almost ran off the road. He also looked at the boy strangely, making him feel uncomfortable, according to the arrest report.
The boy tried to get out of the moving vehicle by opening the door, but Miller purportedly told him not to and started to drive faster. That was when the boy jumped out of the moving vehicle. He fell face-first into the asphalt and suffered minor injuries, including scrapes on his head, hands, and arms, police said.
Two witnesses who were driving behind Miller’s vehicle saw the boy jump out and followed Miller after they saw the boy receive help from a good Samaritan. They called the police and chased Miller east to I-95 for about a mile before he stopped at a red light.
The witnesses reportedly cornered Miller’s vehicle and prevented him from getting away. They confronted him about the alleged kidnapping and demanded that he get out of his vehicle. Miller got out and told them he didn’t know what they were talking about before he got back in his truck.
The officers who apprehended Miller reported that he reeked of booze and appeared to be on drugs. He reportedly violently resisted arrest and it took four officers to take him down. He refused to consent to a DUI test, the report said.
When questioned, Miller told investigators that he was just trying to buy drugs off the boy, who he thought was 14 to 16 years old. Miller allegedly admitted that the boy got into his vehicle and had asked to be let out.
Records show that Miller has a criminal history that includes felony charges dating back to 2011. He has served time on robbery charges and has faced charges for aggravated battery, armed robbery and burglary, grand theft, and obstructing justice by tampering with a witness.
