Alexander Todd Turin of Hallandale Beach, Florida was arrested on June 14 after investigators linked his home address to the internet address of someone who downloaded over 1,000 images and videos of children being sexually exploited.
Turin, 29, is charged with 10 counts of possession of obscene materials and 2 counts of obscene communication. He is being held in Broward’s main jail. His bond was set at $551,000. News sources did not say if he has acquired an attorney.
According to the arrest report, investigators tracked an internet address that used a file-sharing website to download more than 1,000 pictures and videos of child pornography. They monitored the internet address between May 1 and June 4 and traced it to Turin’s Hallandale Beach home on 440 SW Ninth Terr.
They executed a search warrant last Thursday and found the alleged child porn images and videos on a computer and a 16 GB thumb drive, the report stated. The files depicted minors as young as 9 years of age being sexually exploited
When questioned by detectives, Turing reportedly admitted to “downloading and sharing videos and images of nude children who were posing for nude photographs” and said he had been doing it for several years.
“Turin stated that he had been engaging in this activity for several years and advised that he knew what he was doing was wrong,” the report said.
Another case involving child pornography was reported in Boynton Beach last week. Paralegal specialist Richard Russo, 54, was arrested and charged with receipt and possession of child pornography. He is being held without bond in Broward County Jail.
According to the compliant, Russo became the target of a child pornography investigation after detectives discovered he was the recipient of child porn via “Whatsapp” from a man identified as Russell Schroeder of Oakland Park.
Russell Schroeder was arrested on March 14 on multiple child pornography-related charges. He reportedly sent Russo at least 3 pictures and 10 videos of child pornography between December and February 2018.
Investigators matched Russo’s phone number to the recipient of Schroeder’s illicit messages. Russo also purportedly sent a picture of his driver’s license to Schroeder, and the picture on the license was a positive match.
Florida courts have a zero tolerance policy for sex offenses involving children, and law enforcement agents are required to ensure anyone suspected of or charged with sex crimes is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Sex crimes carry life-altering penalties. Possession of child pornography is punishable by up to 20 years in prison for every count as well as mandatory registration as a sex offender. Sharing and the production of obscene content carries even harsher penalties. Anyone charged with such crimes should hire an experienced attorney to help them navigate the criminal justice system and obtain the best possible outcome.
