School teacher Andrea Jimenez was arrested on Friday and is facing multiple charges after police say she professed her love for a 13-year-old student and bought him expensive gifts. Jimenez, 47, taught science at Doral International Math & Science Academy.
She faces charges of lewd and lascivious conduct and attempted lewd and lascivious conduct on a child. She was taken to Turner Guilford Knight correctional center and was ordered held on $17,500 bond. She bonded out of jail on Friday night.
According to the arrest report, the investigation into Jimenez started on Wednesday after police discovered she had been sending a student text messages explicitly professing her love and sexual desire for him.
She allegedly started sending the messages in May and became “aggressively romantic in an obsessive tone” in her chats with the boy.
“I will go to hell for u. Die for u stop eating to feed you,” one message purportedly read. “My love for u is so real and huge!!! I don’t mind facing the devil himself for u.”
Jimenez reportedly discouraged the student from speaking to other girls and routinely bought him gifts. Investigators also discovered that she had touched the student’s face and attempted to kiss him back in June, when he was 12.
Investigators say the boy was able to fend off his teacher’s advances, but his parents became suspicious when they noticed items they hadn’t bought appear around their home. They looked through the boy’s phone and found the lewd messages Jimenez allegedly sent to him. Police purportedly downloaded the messages and matched them to Jimenez’s phone.
Jimenez’s attorney told news sources that he believes police didn’t conduct a thorough investigation before arresting her and that she will be vindicated when all the facts are presented.
“I think it is reckless, with charges this serious, both for a victim and for somebody being accused of a crime to be rushed to judgment, that’s not fair on any side,” Jimenez’s attorney said.
A spokesperson for Doral International Math & Science Academy told news sources that Jimenez has been fired. The spokesperson added that there were no previous reports of inappropriate relationships between Jimenez and other students.
“As this is an ongoing investigation, school administrators will continue to work closely with authorities. The school’s top priority is the privacy, safety, and security of students and families,” the school said in a statement. “The school has committed additional personnel to support students who may have questions or need to share concerns regarding these matters.”
