Jesus Condom of Miramar, Florida was arrested last Wednesday after he allegedly attempted to abduct a 12-year-old middle school student.
Police believe the attempt is linked to a similar case involving a man who tried to lure three minors into a car.
Condom, 26, faces charges that include attempted interference with the custody of a minor; attempted false imprisonment of a child younger than 13; having an unregistered vehicle and attaching a registration to a license plate that it was not assigned to.
“The court considers Mr. Condom [to be] a danger to the community and to young children and the alleged victim in this case,” Judge Kim Theresa Mollica said during bond court Thursday. She ordered Condom held on $100,002 bond and he is not to have any contact with the victim.
According to the police report, the alleged incident occurred on Nob Hill Road at around 7:50 a.m. on Wednesday morning. A 12-year-old girl was walking to school when a man in a Honda Civic pulled up alongside her and offered her a ride.
The 12-year-old declined his offer and the man cursed and screamed at her, she told investigators. He drove his vehicle in front of her in an attempt to block her path, but the child ran away and reported the incident to the police.
Police found Condom inside a Honda Civic in a parking lot in the 7800 block of NW 44th Street, which is around two miles away from where the incident with the child occurred. The 12-year-old reportedly positively identified Condom after he was taken into custody.
When questioned by police, Condom allegedly admitted to trying to pick up the 12-year-old girl, but he denied knowing her age because he wasn’t wearing his glasses, the report said. Police didn’t believe him because the 12-year-old was reportedly carrying a backpack and a purple lunch box.
Investigators believe Condom was involved in a similar incident that was reported on November 7. In that case, three elementary school students were walking on NW 21st Court when a man drove near them and asked if they wanted a ride and urged them to enter his vehicle. The students refused and the man drove off, investigators said.
Condom has a criminal history that includes convictions for grand theft, armed burglary, and violating probation. He has served time in state prison was most recently released last year.
