Dominick Del Pozzo of Fort Lauderdale, Florida was in a head-on collision involving a Mercedes that was reportedly racing an Infiniti. Del Pozzo was violently thrown out of his vehicle. He died a few hours later at the hospital.
According to new sources, the crash occurred on January 22. At the time of the crash, Del Pozzo had pulled his minivan out of the parking lot of a Restaurant Depot and was driving south on Davie Road. The drivers of the Mercedes and the Infiniti were racing north on Davie Road near the intersection of SW 36th Street.
The Mercedes crashed into Del Pozzo’s vehicle and threw him over two southbound lanes. He was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood, where he later pronounced dead. After the collision, the Mercedes spun, jumped a curb and crashed into a tree.
Police said the vehicle was carrying a teenager and two children. They were injured and taken to nearby hospitals. The driver of the Mercedes was reportedly seen limping. He received treatment at the scene but was not taken to a hospital.
The driver of the Infiniti purportedly fled the scene, but later returned. Police have not yet released the identities of the two drivers. The names of the passengers in the Mercedes will not be released because they are all minors.
