Registered ER nurse David Ian Green of Jupiter, FL, was arrested Tuesday for allegedly speaking about sexually molesting children on a messenger app and sending child pornography files.
Green, 36, faces 30 counts of obscene communication involving a minor. He was released on $90,000 bond. It is unclear if he has acquired the services of an attorney.
According to the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, an investigator in Arkansas was going through a suspect’s device and reportedly found a conversation on the app Kik between the suspect and a user named “green1181” about sexually molesting children.
The detective discovered that the “green1181” had sent several child pornography pictures to the Arkansas suspect on August 21. Among the files sent was a picture of a infant boy being sodomized by an adult male and one of an infant girl with an adult finger in her genitalia. The investigator tracked the user’s internet provider address to Jupiter, and that led Palm Beach police to Green.
Last week, investigators in Florida discovered that a Facebook user with the name “David Green” had uploaded child pornography on the platform, the arrest report indicates. They obtained a search warrant for Green’s home, and purportedly found devices containing several pornographic images of infants and young children.
The South Florida Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force has reportedly received multiple tips regarding Green’s alleged online activities in the past four months.
Records from Florida Department of Health show that Green has been a licensed paramedic since 2007. He became a registered nurse in 2015 and works as an ER nurse at Jupiter Medical Center.
A spokesperson for Jupiter Medical Center told news sources that Green has been suspended pending investigation and his access to the hospital has been revoked.
Cases involving child pornography aren’t uncommon in Palm Beach. Just last month, Palm Beach school employee Timothy Scott was arrested after investigators discovered that he had allegedly stored child pornography at his work computer.
Scott, 56, was employed as a facilities manager at Renaissance Learning Academy. He was charged with 15 counts of possession of obscene materials, and was released on $150,000 bond. The press did not name an attorney for him.
Possession of child pornography is a serious charge with severe penalties. Prosecutors can charge a count for each image found in the defendant’s possession. Each count is a third degree felony punishable by up to 5 years in prison. Possession of more than 10 images allows prosecutors to enhance the charges to second degree felonies, punishable by up to 15 years in prison for each count.
In addition to long jail times, heavy fines, and the enormous social stigma, a conviction also includes a lifetime registration in the national sex offender registry. It is vital for defendants to hire a competent attorney who can come up with an effective strategy for minimizing, and sometimes completely eliminating, the harsh penalties of possession of child pornography.
