High school teacher Diego Guzman Carranza of Miami-Dade, Florida was arrested Friday for allegedly having sex with a 14-year-old student.

Carranza, 30, teaches biology at Dr. Michael Krop High School, 1410 County Line Road. He faces one count of committing a lewd and lascivious act on a victim between 12 and 16.

He is being held in Broward Main Jail on $50,000 bond and was ordered to stay away from Krop High School and the victim.

According to the arrest report, police were alerted about the 14-year-old student’s alleged relationship with her biology teacher by her older sister. The teen’s sister called the police to report that her sibling was at an Airbnb in Wilton Manors with her teacher.

Officers who arrived at the Airbnb reported that Carranza answered the door shirtless and asked whether he had done something wrong. He reportedly uttered an expletive and asked “is she that young?” when the officers told him about the student’s age. Carranza refused to speak to police without an attorney present.

Police found the teen inside the room wearing a long shirt but no pants, according to the report. She allegedly told police that she had sex with Carranza before they arrived, and that she and Carranza had been in an ongoing sexual relationship.

The girl said she had spoken to Carranza about how their relationship was illegal because of their ages and because Carranza is her school teacher, the report said.

A search of the Airbnb yielded a used condom, two boxes of condoms, and a box of miscellaneous adult sex toys.

Carranza has reportedly been a teacher with Miami-Dade Schools for just a year and a half. A Miami-Dade Schools official released the following statement to the press after his arrest:

“The allegations against this employee are despicable. The District goes to great lengths to ensure employees are guided by ethical and moral standards, especially where students are concerned. Any action running contrary to the values we promote and practice will be dealt with in the swiftest manner. The process to terminate his employment is already underway.”

Airbnb has reportedly offered its support to law enforcement and has banned the owner of the room where the alleged incident occurred from the platform.
