Ilana Muransky of Davie, Florida was arrested on January 20 for allegedly driving under the influence and crashing her BMW into a truck on Florida’s Turnpike. She was booked into Broward County’s main jail. It’s unclear if she has been released on bond or if she has sought legal representation.
According to the arrest report, Muransky, 26, was driving north on Florida’s Turnpike when she crashed into a Ford F650 truck some time after midnight last Friday. The impact flipped the truck on its side and caused severe damage to the front-side of Muransky’s vehicle. News sources did not say if any of the involved parties were injured.
Muransky reportedly told the Florida Highway Patrol trooper who arrived at the scene that she had only had one drink before driving. The trooper reported that Muransky was unable to keep her balance and had a strong odor of alcohol on her breath, watery eyes, and slurred speech.
When the trooper asked her to perform field-sobriety exercises, she allegedly told him that she felt pain in her left leg, but she was willing to do the exercises anyway because she wanted to prove that she wasn’t drunk. Muransky failed the exercises and the trooper placed her under arrest. She reportedly asked to do the exercises again, but he refused. She did not consent to a breath test and was taken to Plantation General Hospital before she was booked into jail.
According to news sources, Muransky teaches the second grade at Embassy Creek Elementary School where she has worked since 2014. Nadine Drew, a spokesperson for Broward County Public Schools, said school district policy requires teachers to self-report the outcome of an arrest. She told sources that Muransky’s “current status is not affected.” Any disciplinary action taken is going to be based on a review of all the information related to the incident.
