Jeffries Jackson of West Palm Beach, Florida was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service on June 19 after DNA tests linked him to a 1995 sexual assault case involving a minor.
Jackson, 63, faces one count of sexual battery. His bail was set at $100,000. The press did not name an attorney for him.
According to West Palm Beach police, the alleged sexual assault happened on November 20, 1995. Jackson is accused of offering a minor a ride at a school bus stop on the corner of 42nd Street and Greenwood Ave. in West Palm Beach. He allegedly drove the minor to a community in Village Boulevard and raped her. He then dropped the victim off at school.
The victim reportedly told a teacher what had happened and a rape kit examination was performed. The kit hadn’t been submitted for testing until 2017. In November 2018, the collected DNA was found to be a positive match for Jackson, the arrest report states. The victim reportedly identified Jackson as the rapist in a photo lineup this January.
When interviewed by police, Jackson purportedly told investigators that he didn’t remember the victim or the alleged incident.
The DNA analysis that led to Jackson’s arrest last week is part of a $1 million project started in 2015 by the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office to clear a backlog of over a thousand untested rape kits.
The project has led to several arrests over the past few years, including one that was reported in May. Angelo Adams of Miami was arrested on May 16 for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl in 1993.
Adams, 55, faces one count of armed sexual battery. It is unclear if he has acquired the services of an attorney.
According to Miami police, the alleged incident happened in August 1993. Adams is accused of picking up a 17-year-old girl who was standing at a bus stop at night at the intersection of US-1 and SW 211 Street. Adams reportedly asked the victim if she wanted a ride. The victim said no, but Adams coerced her into getting into the car.
Adams purportedly drove to an area in Homestead, then drove down a dirt road before parking on the side and turning the car’s lights off, the arrest report states. He allegedly threatened the victim with a gun and demanded that she have sex with him.
When the teen attempted to get out of the vehicle, Adams banged her head against the car window and then sexually assaulted her, according to the arrest report. Afterwards, Adams purportedly drove the victim back to the bus stop. He threatened her with his gun once more and then stole her jewelry before letting her out.
The victim reported the incident to police and rape kit evidence was collected. The DNA collected was matched to Adams by the FBI in July last year, leading to his arrest on May 16. Adams has denied the allegations.
