Matthew James Walker of Hollywood, Florida was arrested Thursday for allegedly trying to sexually assault a 16-year-old schoolgirl.

Walker, 23, faces charges of aggravated stalking, attempted sexual battery, attempted burglary with assault, and two counts of criminal attempt to solicit. His bond was set at $250,000 and he was ordered not to have any contact with the victim.

According to news sources, the alleged incident was reported on November 19 in the 2900 block of Dewey Street in Hollywood. The 16-year-old was walking home from school when she was approached by a man.

The man started harassing her and grabbed her arm, police said. He reportedly made sexually lewd comments toward the teenager, indicating that he wanted to have sex with her. The girl told police she feared for her life but she continued walking home. When she reached home, the man purportedly tried to push his way in as she was unlocking the door.

The victim said the man tried to put his hands on her buttocks, but she slapped his hands away and tried to run into the house. The man pushed himself against her back as she tried to open the door. That was when she turned around, kicked the man in the groin, opened the door and locked it behind her. She told WPLG.Ch. 10 that she learned how to protect herself from a TV show.

“I kicked him in his private area,” the teen told the TV station. “I learned from watching ‘Criminal Minds’ that kicking a boy down there really, really hurts, so that’s what I did.”

Failing to open the door, the man told the victim through the window that he would come back the following day, the report said. The girl called her mother, who came home and called the cops.

On Friday, police credited news reports and tips they received for leading them to Walker. Investigators released surveillance footage after the attack that showed the assailant riding a bike and they were flooded with tips from the public.

Walker reportedly saw the story on the news and turned himself in to Hallandale Beach Police, who called Hollywood officers to arrest him. Walker denied any involvement in the incident, the report said.
