Matthew Joseph Villemure Oliveira of Pembroke Pines, Florida was arrested after investigators reportedly found child pornography on three different electronic devices during a search of his home.
The detectives were investigating him on separate felony charges when they found the child pornography. Oliveira, 33, had allegedly posed as an immigration officer and detained several minors. He was arrested in May 2015 and reportedly gave police permission and provided them with passwords to go through his electronic devices. Pembroke Pines police officers found “numerous files depicting child pornography” on his devices.
Oliveira, who was already facing charges for impersonating a law enforcement officer, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and aggravated assault with a firearm, now faces 23 counts of possession of obscene materials and one count of possession of obscene communications. He is being held at Broward Main Jail without bond. The press did not name an attorney for Oliveira.
According to the arrest report, Oliveira was first arrested in May 2015 after he was allegedly caught impersonating an immigration officer in order to detain several minors. When he was questioned by police at the time, he allegedly told them that he did it for “the thrill of it.”
The charges for the first arrest are still pending in Broward’s mental health court, court records show. Earlier this month, Oliveira reportedly consented to a search of his electronic devices and provided police with the passwords.
Investigators found several child pornography files on three separate devices depicting underage boys performing different sex acts. Some of the files had names like “romantic child sex” and “12yo boy sucks 16yo in public restroom,” an officer wrote in the report.
Another child pornography case was reported in West Palm Beach on March 30. Corey Dejuan Perry of West Palm Beach, Florida was wanted by federal agents on child pornography charges.
Perry, 33, was a teacher and basketball coach at H.L. Watkins Middle School in Palm Beach Gardens when a federal warrant for his arrest was issued. The warrant was for the receipt of child pornography, production of child pornography, and enticement.
According to Palm Beach County Schools Superintendent Robert Avossa, evidence found in devices seized from Perry’s home indicate that some of his students were among his victims. Perry was suspended by the school district when the allegations surfaced.
“We’ve made all of our assets available to their families in terms of counseling, as well as other students at the school,” Avossa said. “As a lifelong educator, I am disgusted at what I have learned . . . this individual has embarrassed his school, his community and his entire profession by harming the most important thing entrusted to him, our students.”
The FBI has identified several of his victims and are reportedly still conducting interviews with victims and witnesses, FBI Special Agent Michael Leverock told news sources.
Perry was last seen in West Palm Beach on March 24 and was found dead two weeks later in a hotel room in Nashville, Tennessee. He shot and killed himself.
