Miles McChesney is being sued by the parents of Jennifer St. Clair of Fort Lauderdale, who they claim died while on a date with him on a motorcycle. Her body was reportedly struck by as many as nine vehicles on Interstate 95.
According to the lawsuit, St. Clair met McChesney on the dating app Tinder. They went on their first date on December 6 and were joined by two other couples for a group motorcycle ride in downtown Delray Beach.
McChesney, 34, is accused of “carelessly” and negligently driving the motorcycle while under the influence of alcohol, causing St. Clair to fall off. He reportedly stopped briefly after she fell, but drove away without offering her any help. St. Clair, 33, was found dead in the southbound lanes of I-95.
The lawsuit alleges that McChesney, St. Clair, and the two other couples visited three separate bars in downtown Delray Beach. While at these bars, McChesney allegedly drank alcohol to the point where he became impaired.
The three couples left the area to go home at around 2 a.m., and St. Clair was on the back of McChesney’s bike when she fell off the motorcycle into oncoming traffic. The other couples noticed that Jennifer wasn’t on McChesney’s bike and stopped to call 911.
The Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating the incident and has not named McChesney as a suspect in St. Clair’s death.
“The only thing we can confirm is that she was a passenger on a motorcycle and ended up on the roadway,” FHP Lt. Alvaro Feola told news sources. “FHP is still investigating how she ended up on the roadway.”
The Broward County Medical Examiner’s Officers said St. Clair suffered several blunt-force injuries, but were unable to determine her cause of death in the autopsy and are waiting on toxicology test results.
Following the incident, McChesney reportedly contacted the police through a lawyer and requested legal immunity in exchange for full cooperation. The request was denied because the investigation had only just started.
St. Clair’s funeral service was held on December 15. Her family described her as a kind soul who always put others before herself.
“Jennifer Amy St. Clair was a loving caring friend, niece, sister, cousin, daughter, and granddaughter whose like was taken too soon,” her sister-in-law Becky St. Clair told the press. “Jennifer was an avid dog lover and owner. Her heart for her family, friends, and animals showed every day. Her laugh and smile could light up any room.”
