Swedish Sportscaster Bo Gunnar Hansson Accused of Gropping Teenage Boys in Coral Springs, Florida

action-child-children-79990-300x200Retired Swedish sportscaster Bo Gunnar Hansson was arrested for allegedly groping a teenage boy at a public park in Coral Springs and pursuing two other teens in a park in Margate.

Hansson, 85, is charged with lewd or lascivious molestation on a minor. He is being held in Broward’s Main Jail on $100,000 bond. He was deemed a flight risk because he had already purchased a return ticket to Sweden and was ordered to surrender his passport. The press did not name an attorney for him.

According to the arrest report, the incidents occurred Fern Glen Park in Coral springs and an unnamed public park in Margate.

The Coral Springs incident occurred on January 3. Hansson reportedly tried to “assist” a 13-year-old boy who was using monkey bars and moved his hands up the teen’s pants to get closer to his “private” parts. The teen became uncomfortable and moved to a sit-up bench. Hansson allegedly followed him and held his feet down for him. He again move his hands up the boy’s legs and this time groped him in the groin area.

The teen got up and ran away, the report said. He told investigators that he didn’t know Hansson and that this was the first time they had interacted, but he had seen him in the park on several occasions.

The Margate incident occurred the next day. Police say Hansson approached two boys at the park and started asking them about their fitness routines. He then attempted to grab one of the boy’s shirts and asked to “see his muscles,” the report said. One of the teens pushed his hand away and called the police.

When interviewed by police, Hansson reportedly admitted to having contact with the teens, but he denied doing anything inappropriate.

Hansson is reportedly a well-known TV personality in Sweden, where he worked as a sports journalist and commentator covering several big sporting events, including Worlds Cups and the Olympics. News sources say he travels to Florida from Sweden for about a month every year.

Another incident of lewd and lascivious molestation of a minor by an adult was reported in Doral last week. Taekwondo instructor Sebastian Hanul Choi was arrested on January 8 for allegedly forcing a female student to perform oral sex on him.

Choi, 22, faces charges of sexual battery on a minor and lewd and lascivious molestation on a child. He is being held without bond. It is unclear if he has acquired the services of an attorney.

According to the arrest report, the student was molested three years ago when she was 10 years old at Team Taekwondo in Doral, Florida. Choi, who 19 at the time, was her instructor and PE teacher. The victim told her parents she was repeatedly molested by Choi in 2015. He reportedly forced her to touch his genitals and perform oral sex on him.

Following his arrest, Choi has been suspended from USA Taekwondo and is ineligible or any USA Taekwondo-related activities pending the outcome of the investigation.

Martial Arts Instructor Joao Da Silva of Davie, Florida Accused of Inappropriately Touching Students

Brazilian jiu-jitsu instructor Joao Da Silva of Davie, Florida was arrested on August 21 for allegedly inappropriately fondling three female students.

Da Silva, 34, is charged with two counts of lewd and lascivious molestation involving a minor under 16 and one count of lewd and lascivious molestation involving a victim aged 16 or 17. He is being held in lieu of $225,000 bond. The press did not name an attorney for him.

According to the arrest report, three victims, aged 17, 15, and 13, have come forward with allegations about Da Silva, who is the owner of Raiva Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at 8232 W. State Road 84 in Davie.

One of the victims told police that Da Silva touched her breasts every week for the past three years she has taken lessons at his school. The victim, who is now 13, said the incidents started when she was under 12. She said she was certain the incidents weren’t accidents because they happened after class.

Another victim, who is now 15 years old and has also taken classes at the center for the past three years, told investigators that Da Silva touched her breasts for around two weeks before she reported the incidents to the police.

The 17-year-old victim told police that Da Silva touched her inappropriately on several occasions during training sessions. She also said he touched her inappropriately during a summer camp his center organized at Hollywood Beach this year. She said was in the ocean with Da Silva, talking to him about a guy she was dating and Da Silva allegedly told her he had to teach her what to do, according to the complaint affidavit.

He moved her swimsuit so her genitals were exposed and told her to wrap her legs around him, investigators said. Da Silva then allegedly placed his penis on the victim’s genitals, but did not penetrate her. The victim said she panicked and got out of the water. She didn’t immediately tell anyone about the incident, the report said.

“We don’t know if there are any other victims at this time, if there are we’re asking them to please contact the police department so that they can get the information to us and we can help them as well,” police spokesperson Vivian Gallinal told the press.

Palmetto High Teacher Jason Edward Meyers Accused of Sexually Charged Relationships With Multiple Students

Jason-Edward-Meyers-240x300Former Palmetto Senior High School teacher Jason Edward Meyers was arrested in February 2016 on a sexual battery charge involving one of his students. A lawsuit was filed this week in federal court on behalf of a student against the Miami-Dade School Board that claims the school district did nothing to stop Meyers behavior.

“As alleged, the School Board knew that Mr. Meyers posed a serious risk of sexual abuse against our community’s children. Yet it did virtually nothing to stop him,” Miami attorney Mark Schweikert told The Miami Herald. “Instead, the School Board merely relocated the risk posed by his predatory behavior from one school to another.”

According to the suit, there have been concerns about Meyers inappropriate behavior for years now. Someone sent an email in 2008 to the principal at Dr. Michael M. Krop High School in North Miami-Dade alleging that Meyers, who taught creative writing, was engaging in sexual activity with his female students. It is unclear if the claim was investigated, but Meyers was transferred to Palmetto Senior High in 2011 and reportedly continued to sexually harass his students.

The suit alleges that Meyers was involved in sexual relationships with eight of his students at two different schools in his 14-year tenure as a teacher in Miami-Dade County. He reportedly encouraged his creative writing students to write erotic content. He told one student to read novels with sexually explicit content like “Lolita” with a special emphasis on sections about an older man seducing an underage girl.

Other allegations in the lawsuit include: giving a student provocative clothing to wear to his class, attempting to force another student to leave her boyfriend and telling her to title a poem she had written, “Come Inside Me.” He singled out these students to such a public degree that they became known as “Jason’s girls,” the suit claims.

In some instances, the allegations against Meyers go beyond sexual harassment. He is accused of groping and forcibly kissing the plaintiff and reportedly had sex with another student inside his classroom. The suit also mentions an argument between Meyers and his wife, who also teaches at Palmetto High, that reportedly took place at the school in 2015. The confrontation was purportedly about his relationship with at least one student. Meyers lost his post at the school after the 2016 arrest.

Two months ago a Palmetto High student who came to the U.S. on an exchange program was arrested together with her host father on sexual abuse and child pornography charges. Marta San Jose, 21, and Dale Leary of Cutler Bay, 50, allegedly worked together to convince San Jose’s then 14-year-old sister to come live with them so they could sexually abuse her.

San Jose was a Spanish foreign-exchange student who was hosted by Leary and his former wife Claudia Leary when she was 16. Before she finished her senior year at Palmetto High, Leary divorced his wife and married her weeks after she turned 18. The pair reportedly flew in San Jose’s underage sister from Spain to live with them Florida and sexually abused her for two years. San Jose is reportedly still in jail. Leary committed suicide after he was released on bond.
