Bernardo Osorio of Cutler Bay, Florida was arrested on February 3 for allegedly using his position as a math teacher to sexually abuse a 15-year-old student from Cutler Bay High. Osorio, 53, is being charged with three counts of sexual acts with a familial child. He was released from jail on Sunday after posting a $15,000 bond. It is unclear if he has acquired legal representation.
According to court records, Osorio reportedly received oral sex from the student on three separate occasions in November last year. The victim purportedly told Miami-Dade police that Osorio initiated sex twice at school and one other time in his car.
To lend credence to her story, she reportedly described a birthmark on Osorio’s penis. When questioned by investigators, Osorio allegedly confessed and agree that “it was wrong because he was the teacher and the victim was the student.”
Osorio has been a teacher for several years and in 2008, he was named Hispanic Heritage Teacher of the Year in Miami. Before joining the faculty of Cutler Bay High, Osorio worked as a teacher at Arvida Middle School, Ransom Everglades School, and Coral Reef High. He also worked as a math professor at Miami Dade College and Florida International University.
Daisy Gonzalez-Deigo, chief communications officer for Miami-Dade County Public Schools, released the following statement to the press:
“Miami-Dade County Public Schools takes every precaution to safeguard the children in our care. The employee taken into custody by Miami Dade Schools Police for having an inappropriate relationship with a minor is no longer employed by M-DCPS and is prohibited from seeking future employment with the school district. The allegations made against the employee are unacceptable and inexcusable and the school district will not tolerate such behavior.”
Gonzalez-Diego released a similar statement last week for Don Clippinger, a former assistant principle at Fienberg-Fisher K-8 Center in Miami, Florida. Clippinger was arrested by federal agents on child pornography charges on January 31.
According to the criminal complaint, investigators reportedly began an undercover operation in October last year of a video conferencing application that was used online by people interested in child porn and/or abusing children.
Clippinger was allegedly one of the users. He purportedly watched child pornography via a video stream on the application on at least three occasions in November last year. Authorities said Clippinger was usually naked when he live streamed himself in the application’s meeting room, and that he sometimes touched himself while watching child porn with other users.
Gonzalez-Diego told the press that Clippinger had been a teacher for 23 years and had no prior complaints from parents or students.
