Robert Lee Turner of Bradenton, FL, Arrested for Allegedly Molesting a Minor

handcuffs-2102488_1280-300x169Police in Bradenton, FL, have arrested a 48-year-old man accused of sexually assaulting a young girl multiple times.

Robert Lee Turner was charged with sexual battery on a victim between the ages of 12 and 18. He is being held without bond in the Manatee County jail. The press did not name an attorney for him.

According to the police report, the victim, whose age has been redacted, was molested by Turner on multiple occasions while she slept. Another child who witnessed the alleged incidents told investigators that Turner molested the victim several times while she slept, but the victim never woke up because “she’s a heavy sleeper.”

The victim reportedly woke up during the last assault, which took place over the Memorial Day Weekend. She screamed in pain as Turner raped her, and he left the room. The incident was reported to police.

Investigators have made several attempts to interview Turner about the allegations, but he purportedly never showed up for scheduled interviews, and then stopped answering phone calls from police altogether. A warrant for his arrest was issued on October 23 and he was taken into custody this week.

Another incident of sexual battery by an adult on a minor was reported in Bradenton this month. Police in Manatee County arrested a 36-year-old Bradenton-area man on November 8 for allegedly sexually battering a teenage girl on multiple occasions.

Wilson Reyes-Alberto was charged with one count of sexual battery on a victim between the age of 16 and 17. He was ordered held on $7,500 bond. It is unclear if he has acquired the services of an attorney.

According to the arrest report, the allegations against Reyes-Alberto were first reported in May 2018 in Sarasota County. Police say Reyes-Alberto was sheltering the victim as a runaway. The first incident occurred at a unfinished house on St. Armand’s Circle where Reyes-Alberto was employed as a roofer. He took her to the house and “pressured her into having sex.” The victim told police that she didn’t want to do it and she yelled for him to stop, but he didn’t stop.

Reyes-Alberto is accused of pressuring the victim into having sex with him “on several occasions.” Most of the alleged incidents took place in his home in the 6000 block of 12th Street East in Oneco.

Police interviewed Reyes-Alberto about the allegations in January 2019. He admitted to having sex with the victim, but claimed it only happened once, the report said. He allegedly told investigators that the encounter was consensual and the victim “wanted to have sex with him.” He said the victim was mad at him because he stopped driving her around to “buy her weed.”

Court documents show the investigation went on through August, when a probable cause affidavit was filed and a warrant for Reyes-Alberto’s arrest was issued. He was arrested on November 8.

Miami-Dade Coach Carlos Maymi Arrested, Accused of Inappropriately Touching Students

chairs-classroom-college-289740-300x200A Miami-Dade track and field coach was arrested last Tuesday for allegedly touching his students in an appropriate manner.

Carlos Maymi, 32, faces charges of battery and offenses against students by an authority figure. The press did not name an attorney for him.

According to Miami-Dade police, Maymi was a coach at St. Brendan High School in Southwest Miami-Dade and at St. Thomas University in Miami Gardens.

He is accused of grabbing a St. Brendan student on “both of [the victim’s] buttons,” according to the arrest report. The report adds that he tried to kiss the victim and continued his attempts even though the victim resisted. Maymi is also accused of similar behavior against another St Brendan student he was coaching between July and August 2019.

“The defendant was in a position of a caretaker and of authority when he intentionally touched the victim’s buttocks against her will,” the arrest report said.

The Archdiocese of Miami immediately reported the allegations by the St. Brendan students to the Department of Children and Families. Maymi was placed on administrative leave before he was fired the next day.

A representative for St. Thomas University told the press that Maymi no longer worked with the university as of August 2019.

Cases of inappropriate sexual behavior by a person in a position of authority against a minor aren’t uncommon in South Florida. Earlier this month, a Pembroke Pines middle school teacher and football coach was arrested for allegedly texting and soliciting a student.

Leverick Ladarius Johnson , 26, faces charges of sexual battery by a custodian, cruelty towards a child, solicitation, and obscene communication with a minor. Attorney information wasn’t available.

According to the arrest report, Johnson was a teacher at Somerset Academy. He is accused of sending inappropriate texts to a 13-year-old female student from September to October 2019. He allegedly asked the student to send him pictures, questioned her about her sexual experience, and told her they should smoke cannabis together, the report said.

Johnson also purportedly asked the victim to meet him in an area of Somerset Academy without CCTV cameras to perform oral sex on him. He told her to keep their relationship secret more than once in their correspondence, the report said.

The victim told police that she never engaged in sexual activity with Johnson, but he did touch her buttocks while she was leaving his classroom once.

Somerset Academy released a statement saying that Johnson was fired and the school is fully cooperating with police in the investigation.

Police believe there may be other victims out there and are asking anyone whose child might have been inappropriately touched by Johnson to contact the Pembroke Pines Police Department.

Repairman Francisco Rene Vallejo Arrested in Pasco County, FL for Allegedly Sexually Battering Customer’s 5-Year-Old Daughter

plumber-228010_1920-300x199Police in Pasco County, FL, arrested an appliance repairman for allegedly sexually battering a customer’s five-year-old daughter during a house call.

Francisco Rene Vallejo, 59, of Otis Allen Roa was arrested Monday and charged with sexual battery. He is being held without bond at the Land O’ Lakes Detention Center. It is unclear if he has acquired the services of an attorney.

According to Pasco County Sheriff’s Department, the alleged incident occurred at a home in Zephyrhills. Vallejo was hired to fix a washing machine by a mother with a five-year-old daughter. The mother left him working on the machine and went to another room to make a business-related call. When she returned, she reportedly couldn’t locate Vallejo. She told police she found him on the couch in the living room on top of her daughter.

The five-year-old told investigators and nurses in graphic detail what Vallejo did to her. When questioned by police about the allegations, Vallejo allegedly admitted to sexually battering the child and called himself “a monster,” according to the arrest report.

Cases of sexual battery involving adults and minors aren’t uncommon in South Florida. Just last month, 53-year-old James Cromwell Humphreys was arrested for allegedly sexually battering two boys.

Humphreys of Pinellas Park was arrested on October 10 and charged with several counts of sexual battery. His bond was set at $860,000. The press did not name an attorney for him.

According to the arrest report, Humphrey’s is accused of sexually battering the boys at his home at 8110 61st Way N late last year. He allegedly invited several children under 12 to his home and performed oral sex on two of them, aged 10 and 12.

The report describes him as a “neighborhood friend” of the children. He reportedly bought them gifts, treated them to lunch, and took them to the park in an effort to groom them for sex.

A warrant for his arrest was issued on October 9, but Humphreys reportedly refused to speak to police. His home was placed under surveillance and police followed him when he left with in his car. When police tried to pull him over, he allegedly started to drive erratically and refused to stop. Police had to call off the pursuit for safety reasons.

Later that day, Humphreys’ vehicle was seen on top of the Sunshine Skyway. He was found standing on the edge of the bridge, threatening to commit suicide. He also purportedly told police that he was ready to die by “suicide by cop” before he let them arrest him.

A crisis negotiator talked him off the edge and he was safely taken into custody. Humphreys refused to be interviewed by investigators. Police believe there may be more victims and are asking anyone with information to contact the Pinellas Park Police Department.

Records show that he was arrested once before in 2007 on similar charges involving a minor under 12. He was sentenced to 20 months in prison in that case.

Pembroke Pines Middle School Teacher Leverick Johnson Accused of Soliciting Student for Sex

chairs-classroom-college-289740-300x200A Pembroke Pines middle school teacher and junior varsity football coach was arrested Tuesday for allegedly inappropriately texting and soliciting a student.

Leverick Ladarius Johnson, 26, was charged with solicitation, cruelty towards a child, sexual battery by a custodian, and obscene communication with a child. It is unclear if he has acquired the services of an attorney.

According to Pembroke Pines police, Johnson, who works at Somerset Academy, allegedly took interest in a 13-year-old female student and asked her for her phone number and social media information.

From September to October, Johnson sent the victim inappropriate texts. He reportedly asked her for pictures, questioned her on her level of sexual experience, and told her they should smoke marijuana together, police said.

Johnson allegedly asked the victim to meet him in school, in a stairwell without closed-circuit cameras, to perform oral sex on him. He also told the victim that they had to keep their relationship secret in at least once of their conversations, according to the police report.

When the victim expressed concern about their age difference, Johnson allegedly told her, “I am grown. And?” The victim told investigators that she didn’t engage in any sexual activity with him, but he did grab her behind while leaving his classroom.

Somerset Academy released a statement saying the students’ “safety and well being” is the school’s main concern and that it is cooperating with law enforcement to investigate the allegations.

“Yesterday, our School Resource Officer learned of allegations of inappropriate communications from a substitute/assistance football coach to a student,” school officials said in a letter addressed to parents. “The school took immediate action and gathered the necessary information to prevent student harm. The individual is in police custody and will not be returning to our school.”

Investigators are asking anyone whose child might have had inappropriate contact with Johnson to contact the Pembroke Pines Police Department.

A custodial authority committing sexual battery on a child is a serious offense with harsh penalties. The charge doesn’t require the custodian to have performed any sexual act on the child; simply soliciting a minor is a crime. It also doesn’t matter if the victim consented to the sexual act.

In a case like this, a state prosecutor will have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the victim is under 18 but older than 12; the defendant had a position of custodial authority over the victim; and the defendant committed a sex act. Noel Morales Medina Accused of Sexually Assaulting Woman in Palm Beach County 20 Years Ago

car-1531273_1920-300x200Noel Morales Medina has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman in Palm Beach County 20 years ago when he was a minor.

Medina, 34, was charged with sexual battery with a deadly weapon and burglary with assault or battery. He is being held in Palm Beach County Jail. The press did not name an attorney for him.

According to Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO), the alleged sexual assault occurred during the early morning hours of October 25, 1999, in the victim’s West Palm Beach home. Medina was only 14 years old at the time; police didn’t say how old was the victim. Medina reportedly broke into the victim’s home, held a knife to her throat, tied her up with a cord, and sexually assaulted her five times.

Rape kit evidence was collected from the victim, but PBSO wasn’t able to identify Medina as the suspect until August 2017, almost 18 years later. A warrant for his arrest was issued and he was finally captured by U.S. Marshals in Mayfield, KY, last month.

“Even though they happened in 1999, or in 2002, or 2005, law enforcement hasn’t forgotten about these victims and they are still important,” said Nicole Bishop, the Director of Palm Beach County Victims Services. “And if they have the evidence and the information that they need to move forward, they’re going to do that.”

Bishop believes Medina’s arrest should encourage more victims to come forward, regardless of how much time has passed. Anyone who has been sexual assaulted is asked to contact the Sexual Assault Response Team at 561-833-7273.

Medina is the latest suspect to be arrested for a sexual assault case that happened decades ago in South Florida. These arrests are thanks to a renewed focus on processing a backlog of rape kits collected in the 90s. The statewide initiative is helping law enforcement agencies test rape kits from a time when investigators didn’t have access to DNA technology or had exhausted all leads in a case.

Sexual battery is a serious offense with harsh penalties, which is why it is important for defendants to hire a competent attorney to represent them.
