Palm Beach Substitute Teacher Stacy Cabral Accused of Sexual Relationship with 16-Year-Old Boy

auditorium-benches-chairs-207691-300x214Substitute teacher and tutor Stacy Cabral of Palm Beach, Florida has been arrested after she allegedly engaged in a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old boy.

Cabral, 23, was charged with solicitation of a minor, electronic transmission of harmful material to a minor, authority figure soliciting and engaging in lewd conduct with a minor, and unlawful use of a two-way communication device. She was released on $15,000 bond.

According to the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office, Cabral was hired by the alleged victim’s mother to work as a tutor starting from May 13. Cabral was reportedly a substitute teacher at her son’s Palm Beach high school.

The victim’s mother became suspicious of Cabral’s relationship with her son less than a week after she hired her. Her suspicions were confirmed when she found text messages and pictures in her son’s phone that she believed were sexual in nature.

The mother confronted Cabral about her behavior and the messages and photos she found and told the tutor that her services were no longer needed. Cabral responded by saying:

“Yes ma’am. I am so sorry. I will stay away from you both and never speak with you again. I am quitting my job effective immediately. I am so sorry.”

Another text Cabral allegedly sent read:

“I am unfit as far as teaching goes. I do want to inform you that I have never conducted myself this way before (not that it excuses my behavior) but there was never been another child and there never will be.”

A few weeks later, the victim’s mother purportedly saw her son had taken a call from Cabral at 1:05 a.m. She tracked the location of her son’s phone and found him at Cabral’s home, where she confronted them.

When questioned by police, the teen admitted that his relationship with his tutor had escalated and that they had “feelings for each other.” He told investigators that Cabral had quit her job as a substitute teacher so that they could “continue dating.” Cabral had allegedly ordered an Uber for him that brought him to her house on the night his mother confronted them.

Investigators subpoenaed Cabral’s phone and reportedly found 94 calls and/or text messages between Cabral and the victim between May 11 and May 24. There also found over 30 images and videos of Cabral naked and masturbating. A forensic examination of the boy’s phone revealed that he had also sent nude pictures to Cabral, the police report said.

When interviewed by police, Cabral reportedly confessed to having a romantic relationship with the boy. She told police that they hugged, kissed, held hands, and had oral sex, according to the report. She also allegedly admitted to speaking for hours on the phone and their conversations would sometimes become sexual.

Cabral was arrested on August 1 and was released on bond the following day.

High School Teacher John Teti of Sunrise, Florida Accused of Soliciting Sexual Relationship With Student

Teti, 41, taught at Northeast High School in Oakland Park. He is charged with soliciting or engaging in a romantic relationship while in a position of authority. He was ordered held on $50,000 bond. The press did not name an attorney for him.

According to the arrest affidavit, Teti’s alleged interest in the student started in October last year. He reportedly built her trust by doing various things, such as offering to pick her up from her home when she was late to school, offering to tutor her at home, and allowing her to skip other classes so she could hang out in his classroom.

Teti was reprimanded by the school in October for having inappropriate communication with his students using an app teachers are supposed to use to communicate with students and parents. Teti reportedly bypassed school monitoring by exchanging phone numbers with his students and talking to them directly for the rest of the semester.

He started sending the girl sexual text messages, often late at night. In one the texts, he reportedly asks the teen if she would be his “teenage bride” if his wife died. His advances purportedly “intensified” in mid-November, despite being told by the girl to stop on at least two different occasions.

In a message send on November 28, Teti allegedly drew a heart with the student’s name in it and asked her what she thought about it. In his final message on December 3, Teti purportedly confessed his love for the teen.

Two days later, his conduct escalated to physical contact after he called her into his classroom while she was in another class. The student went with a friend who knew about Teti’s messages. Teti allegedly attempted to hug the girl in front of her friend and told her he had missed her, the affidavit said.

On December 9, the student received a package of snacks at her house from Teti with a note wishing her happy holidays. Concerned that Teti knew where she lived, the teen decided to tell her siblings who eventually told her parents on December 30.

After his arrest, Teti reportedly admitted to having a “special bond” with the girl that he didn’t have with the other students. He also admitted to sending the texts during the early hours of the morning “when he was lonely,” according to the affidavit.

A spokesperson for Broward Public Schools told the press that Teti had only been a teacher at Northeast High School for a year. He had reportedly been reassigned away from the school since the beginning of year. He was fired Thursday.

BSO Deputy Leon Campbell of Lauderhill, Florida Arrested for Having Sex With Teen Girl

Leon-Campbell-300x168Broward Sheriff’s Deputy Leon Campbell was jailed on October 19 for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl.

Campbell, 37, is charged with lewd or lascivious battery and sexual activity with a minor. Records show he was jailed on Thursday and released on $15,000 bond the following day. It is unclear if he has hired an attorney.

According to the arrest report, Campbell and the teenager had a sexual relationship that started in February 2015, right after the teen turned 15, and ended in May 2017. Campbell reportedly had sex with the teen multiple times. In one instance, he tied her up, made her wear a collar and leash, and spanked her with a whip, the arrest affidavit said.

The investigation that led to Campbell’s arrest Thursday began in May after the victim’s aunt and grandmother reported their suspicions to Lauderhill police. The teen is the niece of one of Campbell’s friends, and they met for the first time in 2015 when the teen moved in with her aunt.

In her statement to the police, the aunt said Campbell and the victim began to spend time together after the girl moved in. They purportedly had long phone conversations which made her suspect they were having some kind of relationship. The grandmother said she became concerned when the deputy inappropriately touched the girl’s chest at a family gathering under the guise of checking her temperature.

The aunt told police that she warned Campbell to stop his interactions with the teen, but he denied any wrongdoing. In a phone conversation with the aunt and the teen, Campbell allegedly admitted to having sex with the teen and apologized. He told the aunt that it “hadn’t started that way” and that he told the teen they had to end the relationship “because of his job.”

Investigators searched Campbell’s home and found several adult sex toys, including a whip containing traces of the victim’s DNA, the report said. They also discovered that the deputy and victim had exchanged hundreds of long phone calls between 2015 and 2017.

Campbell has been a police deputy for almost a decade. He worked as a road patrol deputy in Pompano Beach. He has been suspended without pay pending the outcome of the investigation.

“Deputy Leon Campbell’s actions are a reflection of himself and not the hard-working, dedicated men and women of the Broward Sheriff’s Office,” said Broward Sheriff Scott Israel in a statement to the press.

Lewd or lascivious battery is a second-degree felony punishable by up to 15 years in prison. It occurs when an adult touches the breasts, genitals, or buttocks of a victim under the age of 16 with sexual intent.

A person can be charged with multiple counts of lewd or lascivious battery even if there is only one alleged victim. Prosecutors can file multi-count indictments when there are multiple encounters between the defendant and the victim, and this can affect the length of a defendant’s prison term.
