Stanley Simms of Sunrise, Florida Arrested on Child Pornography Charges

blur-communication-computer-2148217-300x200Stanley Simms of Sunrise, Florida was taken into federal custody on May 8 for charges relating to the possession of child pornography.

Simms, 53, faces multiple child pornography charges. The press did not name an attorney for him.

According to investigators, Simms is accused of downloading child pornography from September 2012 to May 2013. The computer that was used to download the files was reportedly traced to Simms.

When questioned about the files, Simms purportedly told investigators that he accidentally downloaded child pornography videos and images and would typically delete the files.

The warrant for Simms’ arrest was issued on June 7, 2013, in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California in Fort Lauderdale. That was the day Simms was last seen in Florida, sources indicate.

Simms was apprehended in Jamaica and was extradited back to Florida by the U.S. Marshals Service on Wednesday. He was taken into federal custody on Wednesday and has a detention hearing schedule for next week, officials said.

Another child pornography incident involving a Sunrise man was reported last month. Neil Greenberg of Sunrise was taken into custody on April 15 for allegedly having sex with minors and recording the encounters.

Greenberg, 60, was charged with possession of child pornography, unlawful sexual activity with minors, promoting child pornography, promoting sexual performance by a child, and unlawful use of a communication device. He was ordered held on $1 million bond. It is unclear if he has acquired the services of an attorney.

According to the police report, police first started investigating Greenberg in January after receiving a tip about a possible human trafficking case involving a minor. The minor had been communicating with Greenberg on Facebook. Transcripts of their conversations allegedly indicate that Greenberg had paid her for sex.

Detectives confirmed that Greenberg owned the Facebook account and obtained a search warrant. They searched his home and reportedly found a memory card hidden in a safe. The card contained over two dozen videos that purportedly show Greenberg having sex with girls as young as 14.

In an attempt to explain the videos, Greenberg allegedly wrote a text note in 2013 that says he never “knowingly” had sexual intercourse with minors and that he had kept the videos for their “evidentiary value.” He wrote that he would gladly take a lie detector test to prove his innocence, if necessary.

“These videos are kept here for the sole purpose that they may contain evidentiary value for me because of dialogue contained may prove useful. Since learning of [redacted]’s true age, I decided it would be better if I did not delete them but instead put them offline where I could get them if it ever became necessary,” Greenberg wrote, according to the report.

In addition to the child pornography allegations, investigators also claim that Greenberg operated an escort service website that connected paying users with escorts via a private forum. Police believe there may be additional victims and are asking anyone with information to come forward.

Neil Greenberg of Sunrise, Florida Accused of Making, Possessing Child Pornography

computer-hands-laptop-2115217-300x200Neil Greenberg of Sunrise, Florida was arrested on April 15 for allegedly having sex with underage girls and recording the encounters. Police claim that he also operated a website that connected men with sex workers.

Greenberg, 60, is charged with multiple counts of possession of child pornography, promoting child pornography, unlawful sexual activity with minors, unlawful use of a communication device, and promoting sexual performance by a child. He is being held in Broward County’s Main Jail on more than $1 million bond. The press did not name an attorney for him.

According to the arrest report, police received information about a possible human trafficking case involving a missing 17-year-old girl in January. The girl had reportedly been communicating with Greenberg on Facebook. Transcripts of their chats indicate that Greenberg had paid the teen for sex.

Investigators confirmed that Greenberg was the owner of the Facebook account and used that information to obtain a search warrant. They searched his home in the 2300 block of NW 139th Avenue and found a memory card hidden in a safe in his bedroom, the report said.

The card contained 28 videos from 2017 that allegedly show Greenberg having sex with girls as young as 14 years old. Investigators found eight additional videos in another folder that were recorded in 2012 containing similar content. The card also contained a text file authored by Greenberg in 2013 that attempts to explain the videos, the report claims.

“These videos are kept here for the sole purpose that they may contain evidentiary value for me because of dialogue contained may prove useful. Since learning of (redacted)’s true age. I decided it would be better if I did not delete them but instead put them offline where I could get them if it every became necessary,” Greenberg wrote, according to the report.

Greenberg wrote that he never “knowingly” had sex with minors and he would happily take a lie detector test to prove it, the report indicates.

“It is not something I am interested in and never have been,” he wrote. “I have long maintained that I enjoy the company of young ladies, but 18 years old or older is just fine with me. They do not need to be any younger than that. I would gladly take a polygraph if necessary.”

Investigators also purportedly connected Greenberg to an escort service website that connected paying members with “independent escorts” through a private forum. Police believe there may be more victims and are asking anyone with information to come forward.

High School Teacher John Teti of Sunrise, Florida Accused of Soliciting Sexual Relationship With Student

Teti, 41, taught at Northeast High School in Oakland Park. He is charged with soliciting or engaging in a romantic relationship while in a position of authority. He was ordered held on $50,000 bond. The press did not name an attorney for him.

According to the arrest affidavit, Teti’s alleged interest in the student started in October last year. He reportedly built her trust by doing various things, such as offering to pick her up from her home when she was late to school, offering to tutor her at home, and allowing her to skip other classes so she could hang out in his classroom.

Teti was reprimanded by the school in October for having inappropriate communication with his students using an app teachers are supposed to use to communicate with students and parents. Teti reportedly bypassed school monitoring by exchanging phone numbers with his students and talking to them directly for the rest of the semester.

He started sending the girl sexual text messages, often late at night. In one the texts, he reportedly asks the teen if she would be his “teenage bride” if his wife died. His advances purportedly “intensified” in mid-November, despite being told by the girl to stop on at least two different occasions.

In a message send on November 28, Teti allegedly drew a heart with the student’s name in it and asked her what she thought about it. In his final message on December 3, Teti purportedly confessed his love for the teen.

Two days later, his conduct escalated to physical contact after he called her into his classroom while she was in another class. The student went with a friend who knew about Teti’s messages. Teti allegedly attempted to hug the girl in front of her friend and told her he had missed her, the affidavit said.

On December 9, the student received a package of snacks at her house from Teti with a note wishing her happy holidays. Concerned that Teti knew where she lived, the teen decided to tell her siblings who eventually told her parents on December 30.

After his arrest, Teti reportedly admitted to having a “special bond” with the girl that he didn’t have with the other students. He also admitted to sending the texts during the early hours of the morning “when he was lonely,” according to the affidavit.

A spokesperson for Broward Public Schools told the press that Teti had only been a teacher at Northeast High School for a year. He had reportedly been reassigned away from the school since the beginning of year. He was fired Thursday.

Former Holiday Inn Manager German Martinez of Sunrise, Florida Accused of Molesting 9-Year-Old Girl

German-Martinez-300x169Former Holiday Inn manager German Martinez of Sunrise, Florida was arrested last week for allegedly molesting a 9-year-old girl when he worked at the hotel.

Martinez, 41, is being charged with two counts of lewd or lascivious molestation of a victim under the age of 16. He was ordered held without bond on Thursday by Judge Claudia Robinson. News sources did not name a defense attorney for Martinez.

According to the arrest report, the alleged incident occurred in February at the Holiday Inn on 2450 Davie Road. Martinez was employed as a manager at the hotel and the victim, then 9, is reportedly another employee’s child. The victim told a parent that Martinez touched her below her waist and over her pants while she was playing computer games at the hotel’s business center.

Records from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement show Martinez is a registered sex offender who was convicted of multiple counts of lewd or lascivious conduct against a victim under 16 in 1995.

Another case of molestation involving a victim younger than 12 years of age was reported in West Palm Beach on August 10. Javier Ramos Sanchez of West Palm Beach, Florida was arrested on August 7 after he was accused of molesting a 5-year-old he babysat more than a year. News sources did not elaborate his relationship with the child.

Sanchez, 27, was charged with sexual battery against a victim under 12. He was ordered held without bond at Palm Beach County Jail. It is unclear if he has acquired legal representation.

According to the police report, investigators learned about the alleged assault on August 7 when the victim, now 6 years old, informed a parent about the molestation. The victim was unable to say exactly when the incident occurred. Sanchez reportedly babysat the victim a year ago, and that is when investigators believe the incident occurred.

Police questioned Sanchez about the allegation and he reportedly confessed to touching himself in a sexual manner in front of the child. He also said he “allowed” the victim to perform a sex act on him, but the age of consent in Florida is 18 and no one under 16 can give consent.

Under Florida law, lewd or lascivious molestation occurs when an adult intentionally touches the genitals, breasts, or buttocks of a victim younger than 16 in a lewd or lascivious manner. Lewd or lascivious molestation is a second-degree felony punishable by up to 15 years in prison, or 25 years in some circumstances. A person can be charged with multiple counts of lewd or lascivious battery even though there is only one alleged victim; prosecutors can file a multi-count indictment if there was more than one sexual encounter between the victim and the defendant.
