Hoover Gutemberg Hundewadt of Hallandale Beach, FL, was arrested on September 30 for allegedly raping a 66-year-old woman while working inside her condo in Sunny Isles Beach.
Hundewadt, 68, was charged with armed sexual battery, battery on a person 65 or older, and aggravated battery/kidnapping with a weapon. He was ordered held without bond. It is unclear if he has acquired the services of an attorney.
According to the arrest report, the alleged sexual assault occurred on September 27 at a high-rise condominium on Bayview Drive, west of Collins Avenue in Sunny Isles Beach.
Hundewadt, who works as a handyman, was reportedly called to the alleged victim’s home to fix something in the condo’s bathrooms. The victim was at home babysitting her grandchild when he arrived.
She told police that at some point Hundewadt asked her if she was married or in a relationship and complimented her looks, saying she looked great for her age. The victim told Hundewadt she hadn’t been with anyone for 20 years, police said.
Hundewadt then grabbed the victim and pulled her to him and forcefully kissed her on her lips. The victim repeatedly told him to stop and backed away in fear. Hundewadt allegedly grabbed a knife from the kitchen and told her, “You are going to give it to me,” the arrest report states.
Despite the victim telling him “no” and “stop,” the handyman reportedly continued to grope her and eventually forced her into her bedroom, where he raped her, police said. Hundewadt then presumably left.
The victim waited until her daughter returned before going to the police. She reportedly kept the tissues she used to clean herself after the alleged attack as evidence.
Detectives interviewed Hundewadt on September 30 and he allegedly said the sex was consensual. He was arrested on the same day.
Cases of workers allegedly assaulting their clients while on the job aren’t uncommon in South Florida. Early last month, a City Furniture deliveryman was accused of sexually assaulting a customer after delivering furniture at her apartment.
Richard Omar Fisher, 45, faces charges of sexual battery and sexual assault. He was released on $20,000 bond. The press did not name an attorney for him.
According to the police report, the alleged sexual assault occurred on June 6 at an apartment block in Greenacres. The 23-year-old victim told police she had bought several pieces of furniture from City Furniture after she had recently moved into the apartment.
Two City Furniture deliverymen brought the furniture to her home a few days later. One of the men stepped outside while the other one stayed to take pictures of everything they delivered. The man who remained was wearing a City Furniture shirt with a name tag that identified him as “Richard,” the report indicates.
The victim and the deliveryman eventually went into her bedroom so he could photograph the bed he’d delivered, and that was where the alleged sexual assault occurred. The man allegedly got on top of the woman and started to kiss and fondle her despite her protests. The man left when a telephone technician knocked on the door to install equipment.
The woman reported the incident to police and was able to identify Fisher out of a photo lineup.
Fisher denied the allegations, stating that he is married with children. However, DNA evidence collected from the victim when she reported the incident was a likely match of the DNA sample he provided to police.
